Welcome to Dally Health News and Views. My name is Patricia Dally. I have spent a lot of time researching, reading, and talking about health, fitness and wellness issues that interest me.
It all started with my first paid job in high school. I started working in a health food store and was overwhelmed by the number of bottles on the shelf and the lack of information that was available. This was in 1979, before the internet! If you wanted to find out anything about health and fitness, you could go to the gym, talk to your doctor, and read books at the health food stores or the library. Prevention magazine was about the only magazine available that discussed health issues in depth. So where could you go for information? Word of mouth was almost the only choice and that wasn’t always reliable.
I did start asking my coworkers, reading the books in the store and watching the customers. I noticed that some of the people that came in the store just bought whatever the latest new thing was whether or not they needed it. They would buy cartloads of supplements and didn’t seem to be any healthier the next time I saw them. There were the folks that came in who had obviously read up about what they were taking and knew more than we did about dosages and what was the better source for the different vitamins and minerals. There were the people that started out small, with just one or two things and tried them for a while to see what worked and what didn’t. That was the group I wanted to be in because they seemed to have a gradual improvement in health and didn’t waste money or time on the latest new thing – they just bought the things that worked.
I decided to start this site to share what I have found out. I’ll be talking about exercise, nutrition, supplements, yoga, diet and products that I have tried – some with success, some without – and hope that you will get some benefit from my insights. I hope you will share what has worked for you and your family as well.
